उपराष्ट्रपति श्री एम. वेंकैया नायडू ने आज विश्वविद्यालयों से अच्छी तरह से विकसित व्यक्तियों को तैयार करने और हमारे जनसांख्यिकीय लाभांश की पूरी क्षमता का एहसास करने के लिए उच्च शिक्षा में बहु-विषयकता बढ़ाने का आह्वान किया। उन्होंने कहा कि आने वाले वर्षों में कई कैरियर प्रक्षेपवक्रों के लिए कर्मचारियों को विविध क्षेत्रों में व्यापक ज्ञान की आवश्यकता होगी।
इस संबंध में श्री नायडू ने उदार कलाओं के पुनरुद्धार और एसटीईएम (विज्ञान, प्रौद्योगिकी, इंजीनियरिंग और गणित) पाठ्यक्रमों के साथ उन्हें जोड़ने का आह्वान किया। उन्होंने कहा कि विभिन्न आकलनों से पता चला है कि कला और सामाजिक विज्ञान के संपर्क से छात्रों में रचनात्मकता, बेहतर आलोचनात्मक सोच, उच्च सामाजिक और नैतिक जागरूकता तथा बेहतर टीम वर्क के साथ-साथ और संवाद कौशल में वृद्धि होती है। उन्होंने कहा कि 21वी21वी सदी की अर्थव्यवस्था में, जहां अर्थव्यवस्था का कोई भी क्षेत्र अकेले काम नहीं कर सकता, ऐसे गुणों की अत्यधिक मांग है। श्री नायडू ने मानविकी की पृष्ठभूमि के छात्रों को नवीनतम प्रौद्योगिकीय बदलावों से अवगत होने के महत्व को भी रेखांकित किया, ताकि वे अपने शोध अध्ययनों में इन प्रगतियों को लागू कर सकें।
केआरईए विश्वविद्यालय में मानविकी के उन्नत अध्ययन के लिए मोटूरी सत्यनारायण केन्द्र के वर्चुअल रूप से उद्घाटन के दौरान श्री नायडू ने इस बात पर प्रकाश डाला कि भारत में प्राचीन काल से समग्र शिक्षा की एक ‘परंपरा’ थी। उन्होंने कहा कि राष्ट्रीय शिक्षा नीति 2020 ऐसी समग्र शिक्षा के महत्व को पहचानती है और विषयों के बीच ‘कठोर और कृत्रिम बाधाओं’ को तोड़ने का प्रयास करती है।
उपराष्ट्रपति ने आईआईटी बॉम्बे जैसे कॉलेजों के प्रयासों की सराहना की, जिसने हाल ही में एक अंतर्विषयी स्नातक पाठ्यक्रम शुरू किया है, जिसमें एक पाठ्यक्रम में लिबरल आर्ट्स , विज्ञान और इंजीनियरिंग शामिल हैं। उन्होंने सुझाव दिया कि अन्य संस्थानों को भी बहु-विषयक पाठ्यक्रमों की पेशकश करने के लिए आगे आना चाहिए।
श्री नायडू ने स्कूलों में रटकर सीखने की प्रथाओं पर चिंता व्यक्त करते हुए अभिभावकों से अपील की कि वे छोटी उम्र से ही बच्चों में कला और साहित्य के प्रति जिज्ञासा पैदा करें। श्री नायडू ने कहा, ‘‘विज्ञान और इंजीनियरिंग के शीर्ष राष्ट्रीय संस्थानों में जगह बनाने की दौड़ में, हम भाषाओं और सामाजिक विज्ञान जैसे स्कूलों में आवश्यक विषयों की अनदेखी कर रहे हैं।’’
श्री नायडू ने नए केन्द्र की स्थापना के लिए केआरईए विश्वविद्यालय के कर्मचारियों और प्रशासन एवं श्री मोटूरी सत्यनारायण के परिवार की सराहना की। उन्होंने अच्छे परिवारों से उच्च शिक्षा में इसी तरह की पहल शुरू करने के लिए आगे आने और सरकार का साथ देने की अपील की।
उन्होंने सुझाव दिया कि ऐसे केन्द्रों को विविध आवाजों को प्रोत्साहित करके सामाजिक विज्ञान में नवीन अनुसंधान को प्रोत्साहित करना चाहिए। उन्होंने यह भी सुझाव दिया कि सामाजिक विज्ञान के विद्वानों को सामाजिक मुद्दों की बेहतर समझ प्राप्त करने के लिए चिकित्सकों और नीति निर्माताओं के साथ मिलकर काम करना चाहिए।
इस अवसर पर उपराष्ट्रपति ने स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और सांसद श्री मोटूरी सत्यनारायण को भावभीनी श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की। भारतीय भाषाओं, विशेष रूप से हिंदी के एक उन्नायक के रूप में उनके योगदान को याद करते हुए, श्री नायडू ने शिक्षा और प्रशासन के सभी स्तरों पर भारतीय भाषाओं को उचित महत्व देने का आह्वान किया। उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘भाषा हमें पहचान, स्वाभिमान देती है और हमें वह बनाती है जो हम हैं। हमें अपनी मातृभाषा में बोलने में गर्व महसूस करना चाहिए’’।
श्री नायडू ने कहा कि अपनी मातृभाषा में कुशल होने से बेहतर सीखने और रचनात्मकता को बढ़ावा मिलता है और अन्य भाषाओं को सीखने में आसानी होती है। उन्होंने कहा कि हमें अपनी मातृभाषा में सक्षम होने के साथ-साथ हिंदी सहित अधिक-से-अधिक भाषाएं सीखनी चाहिए।
श्री नायडू ने संसद और राज्य विधायी सदनों में बहस के गिरते स्तर पर भी चिंता व्यक्त की। उन्होंने लोगों से 4 ‘सी’ - चरित्र, आचार, दक्षता और क्षमता के आधार पर अपना प्रतिनिधि चुनने का आह्वान किया। श्री नायडू ने अपील करते हुए कहा, “इसके बजाय, कुछ लोग भारतीय लोकतंत्र को 4 ‘सी’ के एक और सेट - जाति, समुदाय, नकदी और आपराधिकता के साथ कमजोर कर रहे हैं। संसदीय लोकतंत्र की रक्षा के लिए लोगों को अपने प्रतिनिधियों को समझदारी से चुनना चाहिए’’।
केआरईए विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति डॉ. महेश रंगराजन, कार्यकारी समिति के अध्यक्ष श्री कपिल विश्वनाथन, श्री मोटूरी सत्यनारायण के परिवार के सदस्यों, प्रो. मुकुंद पद्मनाभन, प्रोफेसरों, कर्मचारियों और अन्य लोगों ने इस कार्यक्रम में भाग लिया।

Vice President calls for multidisciplinarity in higher education
The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu today called upon universities to enhance multidisciplinary in higher education to produce well-developed individuals and realize the full potential of our demographic dividend. He said that many career trajectories in the coming years will require employees to have extensive knowledge in diverse fields.
In this regard, Shri Naidu called for the revival of liberal arts and their integration with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses. He said that various assessments have shown that exposure to the arts and social sciences leads to increased creativity, better critical thinking, higher social and moral awareness, and better teamwork as well as increased communication skills in students. He said that in the economy of 21st century, where no sector of the economy can work alone, such qualities are in high demand. Shri Naidu also underlined the importance of keeping the students from humanities background abreast of the latest technological changes, so that they can apply these advances in their research studies.
During the virtual inauguration of the Moturi Satyanarayana Center for Advanced Study of Humanities at KREA University, Shri Naidu highlighted that India had a 'tradition' of holistic education since ancient times. He said that the National Education Policy 2020 recognizes the importance of such holistic education and seeks to break down the "hard and artificial barriers" between subjects.
The Vice President lauded the efforts of colleges like IIT Bombay, which have recently launched an interdisciplinary undergraduate course, which includes liberal arts, science and engineering in one curriculum. He suggested that other institutions should also come forward to offer multidisciplinary courses.
Expressing concern over the rote learning practices in schools, Shri Naidu appealed to the parents to inculcate interest in art and literature in children from a young age. “In the race to make it to the top national institutes of science and engineering, we are neglecting essential subjects in schools like languages and social sciences,” said Shri Naidu.
Shri Naidu appreciated the staff and administration of KREA University and the family of Shri Moturi Satyanarayana for setting up the new centre. He appealed to the good families to come forward and support the government in starting similar initiatives in higher education.
He suggested that such centers should encourage innovative research in social sciences by encouraging diverse voices. He also suggested that social science scholars should work closely with practitioners and policy makers to gain a better understanding of social issues.
On the occasion, the Vice President paid heartfelt tributes to freedom fighter and Member of Parliament Shri Moturi Satyanarayana. Recalling his contribution as a pioneer of Indian languages, especially Hindi, Shri Naidu called for due importance to Indian languages at all levels of education and administration. He said, “Language gives us identity, self-respect and makes us who we are. We should feel proud to speak in our mother tongue.
Shri Naidu said that being proficient in one's mother tongue encourages better learning and creativity and makes it easier to learn other languages. He said that we should learn more and more languages including Hindi along with being able to speak our mother tongue.
Shri Naidu also expressed concern over the deteriorating level of debate in the Parliament and State Legislative Houses. He called upon the people to choose their representative on the basis of the 4 'C' - character, conduct, efficiency and ability. Appealing, Mr Naidu said, "Instead, some people are undermining Indian democracy with another set of 4 'Cs' - caste, community, cash and criminality. To protect parliamentary democracy, people should choose their representatives wisely.
KREA University Vice Chancellor Dr. Mahesh Rangarajan, Executive Committee Chairman Mr. Kapil Viswanathan, family members of Mr. Moturi Satyanarayana, Prof. Mukunda Padmanabhan, Professors, Staff and others participated in the event.
